How much does branding cost in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania?
2 min readBranding

Branding is difficult to budget for because the word covers anything from a single logo file to a complete identity system with guidelines, stationery, templates and digital assets. Two proposals that both say "branding" can differ enormously without either of them being dishonest.
What actually drives the price
Four things move the cost, and the designer's day rate is only one of them.
- Scope: a mark on its own, or a system with guidelines, stationery, templates and digital assets.
- Whether the strategy is decided in the project or already exists. Positioning and messaging take time, and skipping them shifts the cost rather than removing it.
- The things around the design: workshops, competitor research, photography direction, and printing the first materials.
- How many people have to approve, and how many rounds that creates. Revision cycles are the most common reason a budget quietly grows.
Why comparing quotes is harder than it looks
Ask for a written scope with every quote: what is included, and just as importantly what is not. A lower quote frequently excludes the strategy, the guidelines or the export files, and those get bought later at a higher price. The cheapest proposal is rarely the least expensive project.
How to budget sensibly
- Decide first whether you are buying a mark or a system. That decision affects the budget more than any negotiation.
- Ask what you receive at handover: vector files, print specifications, templates, or a folder of images.
- Separate what you need now from what can wait. Most businesses can start with positioning and an identity, then add templates as they grow.
- Ask what the next phase would cost, so you can plan past the first invoice.
The question underneath the question
There is no useful single answer to what branding costs, because the honest answer depends on the scope. The useful version of the question is: what does this particular scope cost, what does it give the business, and what are we deliberately choosing not to do yet?
We quote per scope rather than per package, because a package price hides the decision that matters most. If you would like to know what a specific scope would cost, the quickest route is a short conversation about what you need the brand to do this year.
